The Hostfurl mailform.cgi script is responsible for converting web forms to direct email, bypassing third party processing of web form information to send you an email.
The original script is written in Python 3.
Today, 21 December 2023, a mailform.cgi script written in Perl with the exact same functionality has been trialled.
Hostfurl expects the Perl version of mailform.cgi to remain in use. There are four reasons:
- Perl is the main scripting language for the Webpanels
- The scripting is slightly more straightforward.
- The performance appears better, which is to be expected
- Lower server resource usage is expected
